Draft for legal review. This document describes how Ghost works today and isn't in effect yet.
Terms of use
Last updated October 7, 2026
1. Who can use Ghost
You must be 18 or older. You can protect yourself, your children if you're their parent or legal guardian, and other adults who have asked you to and agreed to it.
You may not use Ghost to search for, monitor or file about anyone you aren't authorized to act for.
2. Your account
Keep your password private and your details accurate. You're responsible for what happens in your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else has accessed it.
3. What Ghost does for you
Ghost searches public places for the people you protect, shows you what it finds, and prepares removal requests. For channels that accept email, Ghost sends the notice you approved; for channels that only take their own forms, Ghost prepares everything and you submit it.
By pressing Sign and send, you authorize Ghost to send that notice as your agent, with you copied. Ghost never sends a notice you haven't reviewed and signed.
4. Statements you sign
Removal requests include statements you confirm, such as that the content is about you or your child, or that you own a copyrighted work. Only confirm what's true.
False statements can carry legal consequences. Under US copyright law (17 U.S.C. § 512(f)), knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing can make you liable for damages, including the other side's costs and attorney's fees.
5. Face matching
Face matching is only for your own face, after an ID check. Trying to enroll anyone else's face, including by holding up a photo or screen, is prohibited and ends your account.
6. What Ghost can't promise
Platforms and site owners decide whether to remove content. Ghost makes sure each request is the right one, filed correctly and followed up, but can't guarantee any outcome or timeline.
Ghost only sees what's publicly reachable. It won't find everything, and results can include things that turn out not to be about you. Review findings before acting on them.
Ghost isn't a law firm and doesn't give legal advice. For legal questions, talk to a lawyer.
Ghost isn't an emergency service. If anyone is in danger, call 911. If you're in crisis, call or text 988.
7. Things you can't do
- Use Ghost to stalk, harass, threaten or locate anyone.
- Send false or bad-faith removal requests, or file about content you have no right to remove.
- Upload or share intimate images or any illegal content through Ghost.
- Scrape, copy or resell Ghost, or try to get around its security, limits or ID checks.
- Use another person's account or identity.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules, and report illegal activity to the authorities.
8. Plans and billing
Ghost has a free plan and paid plans. Kids' protection and Get help now are free on every plan. Paid plans renew automatically until you cancel; you can cancel any time, and you keep paid features until the end of the period you've paid for. Prices and plan limits are on the pricing page, and we'll tell you before they change.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings, which deletes your data as described in our privacy policy. We may close accounts that break these terms or that we're required to close by law.
10. Disclaimers and liability
Ghost is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for what platforms, site owners or other people do. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid Ghost in the 12 months before the claim, or $100 if you're on the free plan.
Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
11. Changes and contact
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll email you before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Ghost after that means you accept the new terms.
